Why Get A Business Related Degree?
If you’re still not sure, but know that you want to continue your education, a degree in business-related field is a solid choice.
Courses in these programs provide a broad but firm foundation of the critical information and skills you need to succeed in the business world, regardless of which particular corner of it you choose to explore.
And while you’re searching for your answer, here are the answers to other commonly asked questions about business-related degrees.
NUMBER 1: SHOULD I OBTAIN A MORE SPECIALIZED DEGREE?
Degrees in a specific area such as computer programming or accounting are excellent for those who know how they are going to use them. A business pathway can be an excellent fit for a student who isn’t certain about the specific career or position they want to attain but know they would like to eventually earn a 4-year degree.
“Foundational-level business classes are excellent for helping students discover where they want to grow professionally,” said Rajendra “Reggie” Sinha, MBA, who teaches courses within the Business program at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC). “There are lots of jobs available in different areas of IT or project management. The career path that students choose becomes very important. Within our business program, we teach them the fundamentals that they need to succeed in a range of positions and careers.”
NUMBER 2: HOW DOES A BUSINESS DEGREE TRANSLATE TO THE WORKING WORLD?
Sinha, who immigrated to America from India in 1982, is himself an entrepreneur who began his business in 1989 and now runs a successful international consulting company out of Iowa with his wife. In addition to the real-world experience students receive from working professors in his school’s business program, Sinha says a business degree prepares adult learners for a variety of career paths. Teaching them how businesses operate and how to be an effective manager or supervisor are essential skills for students to learn before entering a business environment.
You’ve taken an important first step toward gaining the knowledge and skills you need to succeed. Your future self will be proud! DMACC’s business-related programs provide the essential strategies and key principles you need to excel in the business world. Whether you want to start your own business or work for a multinational corporation, our coursework and professors with real-world experience will help you become a leader in this competitive industry.
College can be expensive, so it’s important to consider whether a business degree is worth the cost, especially for non-traditional students who are often working full-time while going to school online or in the evenings. Sinha says he sees many adult learners enjoy his courses and find them helpful in attaining promotions within their current companies or new career paths altogether.
For a comprehensive education that will serve you well in any business environment, look for a program at an affordable institution with programs that will expand your mindset and approach. You should also look for programs with mentorship opportunities and courses taught by professors that have plenty of real world experience to match the topic material they’re covering.
These features will help provide you with the broad-based business instruction you need to succeed in whatever specific career path or position you choose.
