Meet the woman who is changing the face (and bodies) of Stockton
Muffin top,” “love handles,” “dad bod,” all terms that make us cringe. Hopefully, you’ve never been associated with one of them, but those who have know how frustrating and hurtful they can be. Let’s be honest—a flat, tight abdominal wall is something most men and women strive for, but the reality is grim. A loss of abdominal elasticity occurs most commonly following weight loss or pregnancy, and sometimes, no matter how much we exercise and watch what we eat, we will never achieve that coveted six-pack.
Well, great news—New Body MD has a solution, the tummy tuck. And with a collective sigh of relief, men and women from all over the country have started discreetly flocking to this new surgery center for the life-changing procedure and other plastic surgery needs.
New Body MD’s new location in Stockton, California is a state-of-the-art facility equipped with marble flooring, granite countertops, and the most advanced medical equipment available. But what is attracting the masses is its premier services and renowned plastic surgeon Dr. Odunze-Geers.
Dr. Odunze-Geers’s education and surgical skills speak for themselves. Her scholarly journey began at Harvard University, where she earned her undergraduate degree and continued on to Duke University, where she obtained her MD. She also earned a master’s in public health at the University of North Carolina and finished her training as a plastic surgery resident at Northwestern University.
An unparalleled education coupled with an unmatched skill set and a unique approach to her patients and their care has propelled her in a field dominated by men.
“I understand the nuances of the female body and what it’d be like to work out with huge breasts at the gym, wear a bathing suit over a bulging belly at the beach, or street jog with that weird back fat popping out of a sports bra. But, more importantly, I like to tailor to each woman’s needs and make a plan that’s perfect for her and for what she wants,” said Dr. Odunze-Geers.
New Body MD offers a variety of minimally invasive and non-invasive plastic surgery procedures covering everything from breast augmentation and reduction to arm, thigh, and butt lifts to non-invasive services like SculpSure and LightRX. However, the most popular procedure is the tummy tuck, also known as abdominoplasty, which removes excess fat and skin from the stomach and waist area.
I had the surgery, and I’m so pleased with my results. My belly button is the most natural-looking belly button, and I love it! I can wear anything from bikinis to skintight dresses. Thank you, Dr. Odunze-Geers; I’m so proud of my new look. – Shelbe from Pasadena, California.
So, what exactly is the tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)? It’s a procedure that is sought mostly by women who have given birth or lost a great deal of weight, resulting in a lack of firmness in their abdominal muscles. During the procedure, general anesthesia is used, and an incision is made along the lower abdomen above the pubic area. Dr. Odunze-Geers then separates the skin from the muscles around the abdomen and the rib cage. The excess skin and fat are removed, and the muscles around the stomach are stretched and tightened. The skin is then pulled down and stitched into place. Another side benefit of the tummy tuck is that it is particularly effective in removing stretch marks from the lower abdomen. The tummy tuck procedure can be combined with other abdominal or non-abdominal operations such as liposuction, microfat grafting, facelifts, breast enhancement, or other procedures. Combining a tummy tuck with breast enhancement is frequently referred to as a “Mommy Makeover,” a popular option at New Body MD.
And tummy tucks aren’t just for women. The tummy tuck procedure continues to grow in popularity amongst men as well. So, whatever the motivation may be, whether a patient is looking to restore (or achieve) that perfect “beach” body, ditch the flabby skin and stretch marks, or minimize an unsightly bulge—the tummy tuck is a simple and effective way for patients to achieve their goals that, in all reality, no amount of working out could ever achieve.
“The better you feel about yourself, physically and mentally, the better you are. You interact with and contribute more to the world around you, including your husband and children,” said Dr. Odunze-Geers.
She recalled a patient she recently treated who had become so overwhelmingly self-conscious about her stomach that for years she had feared being naked or intimate with her husband. Her tummy tuck revolutionized their sex life and relationship, allowing her to be happy again and to feel comfortable kicking off her clothes, walking around in the nude with the lights on, and hitting on her husband. “He actually called to thank me,” said Dr. Odunze-Geers with a proud smile.
Three weeks ago, I had a tummy tuck, as I had a lot of extra skin, and Dr. Odunze-Geers did an amazing job. I am thrilled with the results, even with a little post-surgery swelling. Hard to imagine it’ll look even better soon! – Joan W. from Palmdale, California.
New Body MD operates as a fully accredited facility where the initial consultation, the surgical procedure, and the follow-up care take place at the same location, all under the direction of Dr. Odunze-Geers. With every part of the process under one roof, the difficulty of scheduling is removed from the equation, and safety is made a priority in case any complications arise. It also provides extremely personalized and private care. New Body MD even has a special entrance and exit that prevents interaction with other patients if a patient desires a high level of discretion.
“A woman shouldn’t be afraid to consider plastic surgery if she has a body image issue that prevents her from being herself and fully taking advantage of her life,” said Dr. Odunze-Geers.
To qualify for a tummy tuck, a patient must be in good health and have reached her desired weight or given birth to her last child. With excessive weight loss or gain or pregnancy, the muscles and skin can stretch again.
I spent 20 years sucking in my pot belly even though I was very fit and active. I finally went to get a tummy tuck. Now I have a figure instead of having no shape. My belly is flat!! My back doesn’t hurt anymore, I eat less, and even my bowel movements improved. Best thing I ever did for myself. – Tammy W. from Fullerton, California.
After the surgery, patients experience soreness, swelling, and bruising, and their activities will be limited for at least two weeks, but they will be able to walk immediately after. In fact, they’re encouraged to walk as much as they can to reduce pain and stiffness. However, it may take several days for them to be able to stand up straight, as the skin in the area will be very tight. Any drains inserted during the procedure will be removed between four days and two weeks after surgery. In addition, patients will need to wear an abdominal pressure garment to keep everything in place during the healing process. Scarring occurs with tummy tucks, but the size and how noticeable it will be varies, and most of the time, the scar can be hidden by a bikini bottom.
“How long will the results of this procedure last?” is a common question Dr. Odunze-Geers receives. Think of a tummy tuck as a kick-start to a healthier and happier life. Simply put, the results last as long as you take care of your body—patients need to eat right and exercise to maintain their physique.
