The Future of Work: Is Remote Work Here to Stay?
Currently, one in four Americans are working remotely. What does this mean for the future of office space?
Will offices be gone for good, or will staff eventually return to work after the pandemic? While there’s plenty of uncertainty, we think that working from home will stick around—but that doesn’t mean that offices are going away!
Here are our predictions on the future of work and office space—keep reading to find out what’s in store.
Smaller Office Spaces
We think the future will see smaller offices, since so many companies are downsizing their space. With many staff members working from home at least part-time, it means there’s no need to pay for large, expensive office space.
Moving to smaller offices means companies can still keep a physical presence, but at a more affordable cost. Lower rent costs free up more money for the company to expand and take on other projects, or even hire more staff, which is good for employees.
More Remote Teams
It’s no surprise that more and more of our colleagues are going to live far away! With remote work being so accessible, companies are realizing that they can hire staff from anywhere in the world.
Although this is likely to mean less face-to-face time with colleagues, it brings in new perspectives and ideas, which is great for company growth and innovation. Thanks to video calls, it’s still easy to have a chat with your teammates, no matter where they are.
Increase in Co-Working Spaces
Just because people are working remotely, doesn’t mean they want to spend all day alone at home. More and more workers will join up with co-working spaces, which provide freelancers or remote workers with fast internet, meeting rooms, and camaraderie.
If you live alone and work from home, it can be lonely, so co-working spaces are a great alternative.
The Future of Office Space Will See Improved Design
Offices won’t disappear—there will always be a need for workers coming together. However, the pandemic has brought about increased attention to health and safety, so we hope offices will be cleaner than ever when staff return.
Hiring a professional commercial cleaning company can help with this as well, ensuring your office is safe for staff to return to.
There also might be more focus on employee wellness, with desks spaced further apart, more natural light and fresh air, and access to healthy snacks throughout the day.
Will You Be Working Remotely in the Future?
What is the future of office space and remote work? While no one knows for certain, there’s a good chance that you might end up working from home, if you’re not already.
When working from home, be sure to invest in an ergonomic desk and keyboard, so that you’re comfortable and safe. Set a regular work schedule, keep a work-life balance, and you’ll soon start to enjoy this new and exciting way of life!
