5 Common Pool Cleaning Mistakes and How to Avoid Them
More than 10 million homes across the country have a pool in the backyard! With all of the fun and entertainment that can be had with a pool, it’s no surprise how popular they are.
While there is a lot of joy that comes from owning a pool, there is also a lot of work as well. It’s crucial to keep your pool well-maintained in order for it to be safe and functional for you and your loved ones. We’ve created a guide for the top five pool cleaning mistakes to avoid to help keep your pool on track!
1. Not Testing the Water pH
Obviously, you can’t have a pool without water but it’s important to keep a close eye on what the water is doing to your pool. You should be checking the pH level of the water to make sure that it’s where you want it to avoid major damage to the system.
2. Keeping Filters Too Long
Filters play a crucial role in all kinds of systems. Unfortunately, they aren’t built to last forever and must be changed out periodically to continue to do their job. This is no different for pool filters.
If you want a clean pool, change your filter every three years. It’s a good idea to keep an eye on it and check it before that time is up as well!
3. Vacuuming Improperly
Pools have a great way of attracting all kinds of things into them that shouldn’t be; leaves, sticks, and dirt most commonly. That’s why pool vacuums are so highly recommended.
You can find a type of pool vacuum that works for your setup and it will help you keep your pool clean with minimal to no effort on your part. Win-win!
4. Letting Build-Up Stay
Whenever you deal with water and chemicals, there is a chance for build-up. The build-up will look different based on your specific location, what kind of water you’re using, what the weather is like, and many more factors.
The kind of build-up doesn’t matter as much as making sure that you don’t let it stay for long. As it stays, it becomes more difficult to get rid of and can break down the materials underneath.
5. Avoiding Regular Pool Cleaning
The most important thing to do, but often the most forgotten, is to give your pool a regular cleaning. This should be done at least once a week, more if circumstances call for that (heavy use or regular contamination).
A weekly pool cleaning should include removing any debris, fixing chemicals, wiping walls, and checking machinery. It’s also a good idea to clean the surrounding area to reduce the number of potential messes.
Pool Cleaning Mistakes to Avoid
Pool maintenance sometimes gets a bad reputation for being demanding and overwhelming. It doesn’t have to be if you make sure to avoid these pool cleaning mistakes. When you can do that, you’ll avoid major problems and be able to enjoy your pool much more.
Creating a schedule for your maintenance and cleaning tasks will give you the most control, making sure everything gets done but doesn’t become overwhelming.
