Remembering Child Actors and Their Iconic Roles
Child acting is a big thing in Hollywood, and whether it’s Shirley Temple from the 1930s or Johnathan Taylor Thomas from the 90s, these child actors have stolen the hearts of America for decades now.
Have you ever wondered what happened to the kid actors from your childhood or where they are now that they are all grown up? This blog will talk about a few iconic child actors and the roles that catapulted them to the top of the silver screen and secured their place in our hearts.
Aileen Quinn
Little Orphan Annie captured the hearts of everyone for the first time in comic strips in 1924. The comic strips were so popular that plays and movies soon followed.
The original Orphan Annie was played by Aileen Quinn, whose shocking mop of bright red hair soon made her a household name. But, of course, Little Orphan Annie is all grown up now, and so is the actress who plays her.
You can find Aileen in various productions like Peter Pan and Fiddler on the Roof. Since her Annie days, she hasn’t done any big movies but is happy with her life.
Macaulay Culkin
Macaulay Culkin will forever be famous for his role as little Kevin McCallister in the well-loved Christmas franchise Home Alone. However, while Culkin was a household name in the 90s, he decided to step away from acting in his 20s. Instead, he led an everyday life in New York until the early 2000s, when he came out of “retirement” to appear in a few indie films.
At the moment, he is a member of the cast in the latest season of the ever-popular American Horror Story series.
Daniel Radcliffe
Who doesn’t know the name, Harry Potter? Daniel Radcliffe shot to stardom as the boy wizard in all eight films of the Harry Potter franchise. However, the fame and fortune were too much for the actor, and he faded from the limelight for a few years afterward.
Today, Radcliffe does indie films, TV shows, and acts on Broadway as well.
Judy Garland
Judy Garland became a screen legend for her iconic role as Dorothy Gale in the 1939 blockbuster hit, The Wizard of Oz. Everyone teared up at her singing of Somewhere Over the Rainbow. Garland would go on to act in a few different films but never reach the heights of stardom she did with The Wizard of Oz.
Sadly, Garland died of a drug overdose in 1969 at the age of 47.
Haley Joel Osment
Haley Joel Osment got his start in a Pizza Hut commercial, which led him to his role in Forrest Gump as Gump’s onscreen son. However, his most iconic role was that of the boy who could see dead people in the horror classic, The Sixth Sense starring Bruce Willis.
After starring in films such as Pay It Forward, the actor moved to New York and went back to school. Today, you can find him on TV shows like The Boys and What We Do in the Shadows.
