UPS Worldport headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky employees over 22,000 Kentuckians. But still, there is more hiring demand. In response, UPS has developed a revolutionary program to advance employment opportunities to refugees and immigrants living in Louisville whose first language is not English. The Global Gateways Program aims to attract potential UPS package handling employees by creating a supportive training environment. The Program The Global Gateways Program is UPS’ response to the growing refugee and immigrant population in Louisville. The Global Gateways Program has already helped hundreds of potential employees of Hispanic heritage get hired as Package Handlers at UPS Worldport Louisville. How It Works The Global Gateways Program (GGP) is designed to help members of Louisville’s immigrant and refugee population who are interested in lasting and valuable employment with one of the world’s largest employers. Participants in the program receive a variety of benefits including language assistance in the application process, help completing any required documentation, and intimate, personalized training classes. Once a participant is hired, UPS provides 2 weeks of hands-on training from a GGP management representative as well as intimate support and guidance by management teams that often speak the new employee’s first language. Furthermore, UPS offers free on-site English classes taught by professors from nearby Jefferson Community & Technical College. Plus, the participant receives all the benefits that come from working for an employee welfare-minded company like UPS: competitive pay, full insurance benefits including medical, dental, and vision, as well as the peace of mind that comes from working for a stable company. Who Can Participate The Global Gateways Program is available to anyone living in Louisville with a Permanent Resident card or Work Authorization permit. US Citizenship is not required.
