How Furniture Fair makes Cincinnati even better
Ed Hartman, the marketing director and celebrity of Cincinnati’s Furniture Fair, likes to say, “It doesn’t matter how tall you are. It’s how big your heart is.” If you’ve seen the commercials with Hartman and former Cincinnati Bengal Anthony Muñoz, you’ll understand the joke.
Hartman might be “vertically challenged,” but he certainly has the heart of a giant. His optimism reflects core Furniture Fair values—honesty, integrity, professionalism, and a desire to make the Cincinnati area a great place to call home.
With stores throughout the Tri-State area, Furniture Fair carries out its mission not only by serving its customers, but by taking care of the community at large. The company donates regularly to local chapters of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the American Red Cross, as well as the Cincinnati Zoo, City Gospel Mission, and the Anthony Muñoz Foundation.
While the Daniels family—CEO Rick Daniels, president Bill Daniels and vice president Steve Daniels, who run the company started by their father, Robert “Bob” Daniels—has its say in Furniture Fair’s community involvement, they let Hartman lead the charge.
“It’s not just the monetary and material things that make you a person. It’s the things you do to help other people,” Hartman says. “Furniture Fair has given me the opportunity to go out and help as many people as we can.”
Tom Carleton, executive director of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Tri-State Southern Ohio Chapter, says Furniture Fair helped grow its annual golf tournament from a $60,000 event to a $150,000 event. Over the past 10 years, with Furniture Fair’s support, the event has raised more than $1 million for the organization.
WLWT supports the Ruth Lyons Children’s Fund, which helps children in several Tri-State area hospitals. WLWT, Graeter’s and Great American Insurance had one of their best fundraising years ever when Furniture Fair sponsored their annual calendar drive. “It’s important for Ed and Furniture Fair to give back and be part of the community,” said WLWT senior account executive Lisa Harris. “I mentioned to Ed we were looking for partners. He instantly said ‘How can we help?’”
Many other nonprofits have their own stories to tell about the support they’ve received from Furniture Fair. But its community involvement goes beyond charitable donations and sponsorships.
To make sure Cincinnati area families stay safe at home, Furniture Fair provides free furniture anti-tip kits—no purchase necessary. The tip restraints attach to the back of dressers, chests, and other large furniture to keep them from tipping over.
The tip kit ensures that when kids decide to turn a chest of drawers into a jungle gym, the furniture stays upright. “Whether you bought from us or not, we want to help make the Tri-State area the safest cities in the United States for kids in the home,” Hartman said.
As a family-owned and operated business, Furniture Fair is grateful to the community that has supported it for nearly 45 years. It shows its appreciation by giving back as often as possible.
