Adelphoi Presents Excellent Opportunity for Post-Graduate Employment in Dynamic and Meaningful Environment
Last year, more than 60,000 children in Pennsylvania were involved in the child welfare and juvenile justice systems. Many of these children never had the benefit of a caring adult in their lives to help them build a positive foundation for their future. At Adelphoi, direct care staff have the unique opportunity to transform the lives of these at-risk children, while gaining valuable work experience along with a transferable skill set.
Recent graduates who work with Adelphoi youth find reward in both the work and experiential opportunities. Aside from paid training and hands-on experience, staff have the ability to witness first-hand their impact on children in need. In addition, Adelphoi’s various benefit programs, such as the Work Scholars Program, offer the opportunity to develop in-demand skills while also helping qualifying employees pay off student debt.
Adelphoi’s Work Scholars Program offers grants up to $10,000 to eight candidates each year, providing an excellent opportunity to subsidize the cost of education for those who feel compelled to help other young people navigate their individual life challenges.
Adelphoi’s first Work Scholars recipient, Latrobe native Julie M., works as a shift supervisor while completing her master’s degree in Criminology at nearby Saint Vincent College. Compelled by the mutual desire to help others, Julie first worked as an auxiliary staff member. She quickly advanced to a second-level counselor at one of Adelphoi’s group homes, Susan’s Place, providing therapeutic care to the 12-to-18-year-old female residents there.
I have loved seeing that I am making a difference; it is amazing how much I have learned from working with them as well.
Though she originally intended to join Adelphoi for only a brief period before moving on to a career in criminology, Julie now says her work at Adelphoi is only beginning. “Through Adelphoi, I have become more confident and direct with both my coworkers and in my regular life, when I used to be very shy and quiet,” she says, “I have connected with many of the youth, and I have loved seeing that I am making a difference; it is amazing how much I have learned from working with them as well.”
Applying for the Adelphoi Work Scholars program provides an excellent path into meaningful work as Scholars join a large, dynamic staff. “We want to build and maintain a highly qualified core team who want to be part of this process,” explains Mike Ziemianski, Vice President of Human Resources, “We are confident that this program will help us achieve those results for both our youth in care as well as our employees.”
Adelphoi offers many opportunities for recent college and graduate school graduates to join the youth care community, an environment where one learns to interact professionally with others and develop communication and behavior management skills, which are invaluable talents to apply at Adelphoi as well as in any future endeavors. Residential counselors, for example, work among a broad network of equally committed individuals with whom they discuss daily scenarios, contemplate strategies, and learn social and work skills to advance their careers within Adelphoi and in other potential pursuits. Residential counselors rotate shift schedules to allow for extended days off. They also receive full health and dental benefits, a matched retirement plan, and, after just two years, 20 days of paid time off. In addition to the Work Scholars program, Adelphoi offers paid training, student loan forgiveness, and deferment programs. All travel costs are reimbursed, and meals within homes are included in work hours as well.
Adelphoi is recognized as a leading provider of fundamental services for children, youth and families throughout Pennsylvania. The organization’s 24 group homes provide a safe haven for 325 children, and the educational branch serves 500 students. Adelphoi also provides foster care for over 150 children each year. Adelphoi’s 650 employees build lasting relationships with these children, helping to restore confidence and repair adult-child bonds that often change the fundamental direction of an at-risk youth’s life.
When you join Adelphoi as a Work Scholar or recent graduate, you not only build your dossier of life and work skills from day one, but you also join in transforming lives, one child at a time. Visit the Adelphoi website or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. today to learn more.
