How to Moisturize Dry, Chapped Lips
It’s wintertime and you have a whole routine to get bundled up before you go outside. That way, you stay comfortable and warm.
But when you get back inside, you notice that your lips are not only dry, but also chapped. Not only is this annoying, but it can be painful!
Thankfully, there are ways to keep your lips soft and smooth. Read on for a quick guide on how to moisturize your dry and/or chapped lips!
Pick a Good Lip Balm
Not all lip balms are created equally, so you need to pick smartly. More specifically, take a closer look at the ingredients listed in your lip balm and throw out the ones that have drying ingredients.
Surprisingly, ingredients like menthol will dry your lips out, as well as camphor and phenol. Scents and flavors will also have drying effects, so it’s best to go scentless.
Ingredients that’ll help moisturize your lips include petroleum, lanolin, beeswax, and ceramides.
Use Your Lip Balm Regularly
Lip balms offer a protective coating over your lips so things like cold weather and harsh winds won’t affect them as much. This makes it very important to wear your lip balm on a regular basis. Not only that, but you should be applying lip balm before you experience dry and chapped lips, not after.
It’s suggested that 6 to 8 coats of lip balm are needed throughout the day to offer maximum protection.
Use Natural Remedies
Natural remedies are great for chapped skin on your lips since they’re usually nice and gentle. And you probably already have these things in your kitchen or bathroom!
You can apply aloe vera, coconut oil, honey, cucumber, or green tea directly to your chapped lips. The first 3 remedies not only soothe your dry skin, but also help prevent infections with their antimicrobial properties. They also have anti-inflammatory properties, which will keep swelling down.
Drink Lots of Water
It’s always a good idea to stay hydrated since your body needs water to carry out various functions. Also, dry and chapped lips are a symptom of dehydration, so gulping down more water will take care of both problems.
If you’ve got itchy lips, you can count on added water intake to take care of this as well.
Run a Humidifier
In the wintertime, the humidity indoor can drop because we turn on heaters more often. This can cause dry skin all over your body.
Running a humidifier can bump up the humidity and not only provide relief for chapped lips, but also moisturize them.
Know How to Moisturize for Soft and Smooth Lips
Now that you know how to moisturize for healthier lips, you’ll have a much easier time, no matter how cold and harsh the weather gets. Remember to pick the right lip balm, apply it often, use natural remedies, drink plenty of water, and run a humidifier!
